Welcome

Welcome to the Care for Our Common Home page. In 2015, Pope Francis published Laudato Si’ – On Care for Our Common Home, the first papal encyclical on care for creation.

It became a best seller in Ireland and in many countries. Laudato Si’ is a blueprint which encourages “every person living on this planet” (LS, 3) to listen to the signs of the times, to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor, to listen to the science and to the call of our faith. In Laudato Si’ we read that, “Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience.” (LS, 217). Being a Christian in the 21st century carries with it a commitment to care for our common home.

In 2020, the Vatican launched the Laudato Si’ Action Platform and asked dioceses, parishes, families and businesses to put Laudato Si’ into action by achieving seven Laudato Si’ Goals by 2030. This is a path towards ecological renewal and sustainability. You can read more about these goals here: https://laudatosiactionplatform.org/

We hope that the following resources will help parishes and people of goodwill to achieve these goals, embracing the call to care more deeply for our common home. These resources are compiled by the Laudato Si’ Working Group of the Irish Bishops’ Conference.
