Thank you for guiding the Catholic Church and restoring the Latin Mass. May God have mercy on your soul.

Ciaran Early

You taught me that Christianity is more than just another abstract idea or ideology, that it is in fact an historical event and concerns the most important relationship in our lives - our relationship with a person - Jesus Christ. You taught me that Truth and Love and Mercy must co-exist and serve each other and always be rooted in Christ - the Way, The truth and the Life. Thank you Pope Benedict. You often called all of us to be saints and your own quiet and gentle example was your most effective witness to sanctity.

Mark McConnellogue

May he rest in peace.

As a young Catholic in Ireland, I send my deepest condolences to “God’s Rottweiler” and pray he rests peacefully with the Lord. He was a man of great courage and resilience and although some criticise his conservative views of in the Church, coming from being forced to be a part of the Nazi youth, I believe he was in every way right to want to keep the core vales of Catholicism unchanged and protected considering how he experienced first hand the radicalisation of fascist ideology in the Western world. These last few days following his death I have learned so much more about Pope Benedict and all of his triumphs and struggles throughout his papacy. In a world so desperate for change and a Church trying to stay modern and relay the teachings of Jesus , I pray that Pope Francis watches over us from heaven, and continues to guide us on how to stay true to the word of God and continue to spread the good news to all who will listen.

Rest in peace

I was lucky enough to be able to attend World Youth day both in Germany and in Madrid and Pope Benedict was presiding over the Mass. I was immediately drawn to his calmness and his serenity and his evident love of Jesus and his faith. I admired his intelligence, his theology and his passion to spread the word of Jesus. The world has lost a servant, a shepherd and a shining example of the importance of simplicity in a world that is caught up more and more in the material. Rest in precious peace Pope Emeritus Benedict and I will always be thankful for your example, for your courage and for your conviction. With love and prayers from Ireland!

The man who shaped my understanding of the Catholic faith, and taught me how to navigate my way through this world. I will forever be indebted to him; his gentle nature and steadfastness of faith have been and will always be a source of inspiration. A true leader who made difficult decisions, no matter the personal cost. I have no doubt he is enjoying his eternal reward. May he rest in peace.
