Tomorrow, Wednesday 7 May, marks the beginning of conclave, where 133 cardinal-electors from across the globe will gather in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican to choose the succesor to Pope Francis, and the 267th pope.
In anticipation of this solemn and prayerful occasion, Archbishop Eamon Martin has invited the faithful on the island of Ireland to pray to the Holy Spirit to guide the cardinals in their discernment.
Archbishop Martin said: “I ask you, as the conclave begins tomorrow, to join me in prayer:
‘O God, eternal shepherd, who govern your flock with unfailing care, grant in your boundless fatherly love a pastor for your Church who will please you by his holiness and to us show watchful care.’”
