Bishop Monahan consecrates new columbarium in Ennis Cathedral

23 Oct 2021

On 6 November next the first interment of ashes will take place at the new columbarium which has been built in the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul in Ennis, Co Clare.  A columbarium is a place where cremated human remains are interred.  Last Thursday Bishop Fintan Monahan, Bishop of Killaloe, consecrated the columbarium in the cathedral which now becomes the first in Ireland to provide this option for internment.

Eternum Columbarium is the company which provides this facility for churches and the columbarium was installed by local builders, Michael Clancy and Michael McInerney. The columbarium in the Cathedral has capacity for 240 urns, while 104 niches have already been reserved.

Photographs from the consecration are available for publication by media and are available here https://www.killaloediocese.ie/consecration-of-columbarium-in-ennis-cathedral/
