13 Oct 2017

As part of the celebrations organised by World Missions Ireland to mark October as ‘Mission Month’, you, or a representative, are invited to attend a photocall for the Miles for Mission walk/run.  This walk/run takes place each year to raise money for Irish missionaries ministering to families overseas.  The theme for Mission Month is ‘Reach Out and Spread the Joy’. Details:

Where The Papal Cross, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8
When Saturday, 14 October 2017 from 9.00am to 2.00pm approximately.
In attendance Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly, Archbishop of Cashel & Emly and chair of the Council for Missions of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference; young families, missionaries and benefactors.

Background
Registration is available online at www.popupraces.ie and entrants can also register on the day from 9.00am at the Papal Cross.  World Missions Ireland, in conjunction with the World Meeting of Families is hosting this annual walk/run.  Given the huge numbers of Irish missionaries overseas, World Missions Ireland and the World Meeting of Families are hoping that this event will be an occasion for families to come together on mission and to help raise funds for missionaries working with very needy families around the world.  The 2K family walk begins at 10.00am, while the 5K and 10K events will commence at 10.30am.  This “families helping families” event will be a fun opportunity to meet some of our Irish missionaries who have a wealth of experiences and wonderful stories to share.

Notes for Editors

  • World Missions Ireland (www.wmi.ie and @MissioIreland on Twitter) is part of Pope Francis’ official charity for overseas mission and it is responsible for coordinating resources and for distributing these equitably on the basis of need.  The twofold purpose of Mission Month is to raise awareness about the evangelising work of Irish missionaries abroad, and to raise funds to support their work.
