Statement by Bishop Denis Brennan, Bishops of Ferns, on the Flood family deaths

The Bishop of Ferns, Dr Denis Brennan, has expressed his deep sadness on the deaths on Saturday of the Flood family, Dermot, Lorraine, Mark and Julie, in Clonroche, Co Wexford.

Bishop Brennan said, “At this time I am especially mindful of the family and friends of those who have died, the local parish, diocesan communities and the many who share my deep sadness at this most unfortunate tragedy.

“I ask that the faithful of the Diocese of Ferns to remember in their prayers, at home and at Mass, the Flood family, their neighbours and friends.”

“I wish to thank local priests – Fathers Hayes and Redmond – for conveying my feelings of support to the people of the parish and curacy. I wish also to express solidarity with all civil authorities, the emergency services and the local parish community for their professional and sensitive response to this tragedy.”

“Across the nation thoughts and prayers have turned to Clonroche, to the parents and children who have died and the harrowing effects on those family members, neighbours and friends who have received this dreadful news,” Bishop Brennan concluded.
