Bishop Donal Murray’s statement on the retirement of Church of Ireland Bishop Michael Mayes

I have just heard the news that Bishop Michael Mayes intends to retire shortly. I have very much appreciated the friendship, collaboration and the sharing in pastoral concern for the people of our dioceses which I have experienced with him and his wife Beth during their years in Limerick. For most of those years since 2000 we have been neighbours in every sense of the word. We lived next door to one another, but I also knew that I was living beside good friends.

Michael and Beth will be greatly missed in Limerick and I wish them every blessing in what I hope will be long, happy and fulfilled years of retirement.

+Donal Murray Bishop of Limerick
