PRESS RELEASE

Archbishop Seán Brady welcomes appointment of new Bishop of Ossory Bishop-elect Séamus Freeman

I congratulate Father Séamus Freeman on his appointment by Pope Benedict XVI as Bishop of Ossory, in succession to Bishop Laurence Forristal.

I wish Bishop-elect Freeman many blessings as he prepares to take up the pastoral care of “Ireland’s Oldest Bishopric” under the protection of its patrons, St. Kieran and St. Canice.

Father Freeman is a member of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate, the Pallottine Fathers. Like the founder, St Vincent Pallotti, Father Freeman has often given retreats in various national colleges in Rome. Father Freeman’s experience as Superior of the Society for twelve years will be of great help to him as he returns to minister in his native country.
