Brendan O’Reilly appointed Executive Secretary

of the Bishops’ Catechetics Commission

Bishop Martin Drennan, Chairman of the Commission on Catechetics of the Irish
Bishops’ Conference has announced the appointment of Mr Brendan O’Reilly as
Executive Secretary of the Bishops’ Catechetics Commission in Maynooth.

Welcoming his appointment Bishop Martin Drennan, said: “Brendan brings
much relevant experience, enthusiasm and commitment to the role of executive
secretary to the catechetics commission and will be a great asset in furthering
catechetical developments in Ireland.”

Brendan O’Reilly (58) has been a writer, co-ordinator and administrator of
the Alive-O Catechetical Programme for Ireland and Scotland and is a former
Diocesan Adviser for Religious Education in the Archdiocese of Dublin. He
has taught for 35 years in the Primary and Post-Primary sectors and has
lectured in Religious Education in Ireland, Scotland, Zambia and in the
United States.

A native of the Dublin, Brendan was educated by the Christian Brothers and
qualified as a primary school teacher.  In 1977 he graduated from St. Patrick’s
College, Maynooth with a Bachelor of Divinity in Theology, Scripture and Church
History.  He has since been awarded a Higher Diploma in Education (Trinity
College), Diploma in Catechetics (Lumen Vitae) and a Masters Degree in
Religious Education (Dublin City University). Brendan is married with two
children.

Mr O’Reilly replaces Linda Quigley who has returned to teaching in Wicklow.
