IRISH BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE LAUNCHES CONSULTATION PROCESS

‘DIALOGUE IN FAITH’

FOR FIRST IRISH NATIONAL DIRECTORY FOR CATECHESIS

The Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference has set in motion a process of
consultation entitled ‘Dialogue in Faith’ to help with the
preparation of the first Irish National Directory for Catechesis.

Catechesis is is the ongoing deepening of personal faith which is
understood as a day-to-day concern for every member of the Church.

The consultation process is ongoing around Ireland in 2005 and is
being coordinated by Rev. Dr. Gareth Byrne who has been seconded to
write the Directory.

Themes associated with faith development are being addressed by those
involved in catechesis at a variety of levels. An open invitation is
also being made to anyone who would like to submit their thoughts and
suggestions, in no more than 500 words, on a specific catechetical issue.

It is envisaged that initiatives at parish, local-area and diocesan level,
as well as at home and school, will be incorporated into the National
Directory for Catechesis. The Church as a community of lived faith is
called continually to recognise and take to heart the ongoing faith
formation and faith development of all of its members, adults as well
as young people.

The closing date for receipt of submissions is Friday 10th June 2005.
