PRESS RELEASE

21 APRIL 2005

STATEMENT OF DR THOMAS FLYNN, BISHOP OF ACHONRY

ON THE ELECTION OF POPE BENEDICT XVI

A few short weeks ago we sadly noted, the death of Pope John Paul 11. It
is now appropriate we express our welcome and prayerful good wishes to
his successor, our new Holy Father; Pope Benedict XVI.

As Spiritual Leader of the Universal Church and as Bishop of Rome he invites
the prayer, support and input of the local church.  The Diocese of Achonry
is pleased to accept this invitation and looks forward to his leadership
and example; knowing his very life will be given to the service of the
flock now placed in his care.

We will pray for Pope Benedict XVI at all Masses in the diocese on Sunday
next and I encourage all the priests and people of Achonry to pray publicly
and privately for our new Pope.

“May the Lord who has begun the good work in him, bring it to fulfilment”.

+Thomas Flynn,
Bishop of Achonry
21st April 2005
