Archbishop Sean Brady welcomes decommissioning announcement

Speaking from Rome where he is attending the World Synod of Bishops, the Archbishop of Armagh, Dr Sean Brady, made the following statement:

I warmly welcome the news that the IRA has put some of its weapons beyond use and that it is engaging with the Independent International Commission on Decommissioning.

This represents very significant progress which augurs well for the future of the peace process, and I commend the efforts of all those who have contributed towards this development.

I hope and pray that, in the light of this development, all the parties involved will  renew their commitment to work for a consolidation of the peace process and a better future for all the people of Northern Ireland.
