Pope’s Schedule for Holy Week
The following is the schedule of Holy Week activities presided by John Paul II which was released by the Office of Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff:
THURSDAY, April 12: Holy Thursday. Chrism Mass in St Peter’s Basilica at 9:30 a.m. presided by John Paul II. The Easter Triduum of the Lord’s Passion and Resurrection begins with the Mass of Our Lord’s Last Supper in St John Lateran Basilica at 5:30 p.m. The Holy Father will preside at the concelebration of the Mass and will wash the feet of twelve priests. During the rite, those present will be invited to contribute to a collection for the victims of the earthquake in El Salvador. The sum collected will be given to the Holy Father at the presentation of the gifts. At the end of the celebration the Blessed Eucharist will be transferred to the chapel of reposition.
FRIDAY, April 13: Good Friday. The Holy Father will preside at the Liturgy of the Word, the Adoration of the Cross and the Communion Rite for the celebration of Our Lord’s Passion in St. Peter’s Basilica at 5:00 p.m. He will lead the Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum at 9:15 p.m.
SATURDAY, April 14: The Easter Vigil will begin at 8:00 p.m. in St. Peter’s Basilica, when the Pope will bless the new fire in the atrium of the church. After the entrance procession with the Easter candle and the singing of the Exsultet, he will preside at the Liturgy of the Word and the baptismal and eucharistic liturgies, which he will concelebrate with the
cardinals.
SUNDAY, April 15: Easter Sunday. At 10:30 a.m., John Paul II will preside at Mass in St. Peter’s Square, after which he will impart the “Urbi et Orbi” (“to the city and the world”) blessing from the basilica’s central loggia. ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBLIN

The only Mass celebrated on Holy Thursday morning in the diocese.
Priests and lay representatives from every parish gather with the Cardinal.
Oils of Chrism, Oils of the Sick and the Oil of Catechumens will be blessed for use in the diocese throughout the coming year.
Representatives from religious education, medical personnel and priests present the oils to the Cardinal.

Bishop Jim Moriarty, Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin, will take part in an unusual and visual Stations of the Cross which will proceed through the streets of the city as it visits three parishes in the Ballymun area.
The stations start at St Joseph’s Church, Balcurris, and after visiting a home for senior citizens, an art centre, a shopping centre, the Church of the Virgin Mary and other stations, finishes at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Silloge.

Good Friday, 13th April 3 p.m Celebration of the Lord’s Passion – Corpus Christi Church, Home Farm Road (Drumcondra) Cardinal Connell will be the principal celebrant.
Bishop Martin Drennan will be the principal celebrant at the celebration of the Lord’s Passion in the Pro-Cathedral at 3 o’clock.
Holy Saturday,
14th April 9.30 p.m Celebration of the Easter Vigil in the Pro-Cathedral
Cardinal Connell will be the principal celebrant.
Easter Sunday, 15th April 11 a.m Mass for Easter Sunday in the Pro-Cathedral
Cardinal Connell will be the principal celebrant.
ARCHDIOCESE OF TUAM
At Ballintubber Abbey, Claremorris, Co Mayo, a Passion Play is being performed outdoors in the grounds of the Abbey, by local adults and local children from the Legion of Mary. The play runs for 3 nights (9th, 10th and 11th April) at 9.00pm.
Those attending are advised to wrap up warm!!!
DIOCESE OF CORK AND ROSS
Holy Thursday
Chrism Mass at 10.00am in Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne, Cork. Principal celebrant is Bishop John Buckley, concelebrated by priests from across the diocese who will renew their priestly commitments.
DIOCESE OF WATERFORD AND LISMORE
Holy Thursday
The Mass of Chrism will be celebrated at 10.30 a.m. in the Cathedral, Waterford. The chief celebrant will be Most Reverend William Lee, Bishop of Waterford and Lismore.
Good Friday.
Clonmel.
The dramatisation of the trial of Jesus will take place, in costume, at the Church of the Resurrection at 2.15 p.m. before the cross is carried via Cashel Road and Cashel Street to Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church for the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at around 3.00 p.m.
Dungarvan.
8.30 p.m, Prayer around the cross with the Music of Taizé. People gather around the Cross reflecting on the suffering of Christ while praying the meditative chants of Taizé.
Easter Vigil.
Clonmel.
On Saturday 14th April the Paschal Fire will be lit at the Old Bridge, Clonmel, at 8.15 p.m. A candlelight procession involving the three parishes of the town will cross the bridge and each parish community will walk to it’s own Church for the completion of the Easter Vigil. In St Peter and Paul’s Church the scriptures will be brought to life through dramatisation.
Waterford.
The Paschal Fire will be blessed and lit at 8.30 p.m. in Ballybricken square. All inner city parishes will participate in the event. When the fire is lit, priests and people will process back to their individual parishes and continue with the Easter Vigil.
DIOCESE OF MEATH
RTÉ are broadcasting this year’s Holy Week and Easter ceremonies live from The Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar.

DIOCESE OF KILLALOE
Local Radio Station Clare FM is broadcasting the Easter Triduum ceremonies from Killanena and Flagmount. The Holy Thursday and Good Friday ceremonies will be broadcast from Flagmount and the Holy Saturday ceremony will come from Killanena.
DIOCESE OF FERNS
Easter Sunday
The Relics of St Therese of Lisieux arrive in Rosslare on Easter Sunday morning. Bishop Brendan Comiskey will host a special Liturgical Reception in St Aidan’s Cathedral, Enniscorthy, to mark the arrival of the relics.
