Croatian Choir to Perform in Dublin

14 February 2001

The Croatian Choir BASTINA will perform a Concert of Glagolitic Chants in the Trinity College Chapel on Monday 19 February, which will comprise Old Traditional Music and Contemporary Music composed on old Slavonic Texts.

Glagolitic was in use in Croatia in the Church and in public life all the way down to the 20th century, and has its links with the work of St. Methodius (who was greatly venerated as an outstanding supporter of sacred images) as early as the 9th century. Glagolitic writing laid the foundations for the development of Croatian literature and literary language.

The Concert, which is being held to compliment the exhibition “Discovering the Glagolitic Script of Croatia”, currently on
view in the Long Room of the Trinity College Library, begins at 8:00pm. All are welcome.
