Statement by Father Francis Bradley, Administrator of the Diocese of Derry, as Father Eugene Boland PP resumes his ministry

This Saturday 15 March 2014, Father Eugene Boland, Parish Priest of Cappagh (Killyclogher), Diocese of Derry, will resume the public exercise of the priestly ministry. Father Boland stepped aside from the exercise of the priestly ministry on 15 August 2010 on foot of allegations made against him. Legal proceedings in both the civil courts and in a Church canonical process have been completed. The result now is that Father Boland can return to the role from which he stepped aside until these matters were carefully and completely investigated.

The Vigil Mass during which Father Boland will resume his ministry will be celebrated by Father Francis Bradley, Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Derry, in the presence of parishioners from Cappagh and the surrounding district, together with Father Boland’s family and friends.

Father Bradley said, “I am glad the civil and canonical processes in respect of Father Eugene Boland have drawn to a close. Father Eugene can now resume the public exercise of the priestly ministry. These processes have demanded time and effort on the part of many people. They have been difficult for all involved. I entrust Father Eugene and all involved to prayer and the protection of God our Father. I warmly welcome Father Eugene’s return to Cappagh.”
