Statement of Archbishop Michael Neary on the appointment of Father Michael Duignan as Bishop of Clonfert

16 Jul 2019

Joining with the bishops of the Metropolitan Province of Tuam, I extend a very warm welcome to Rev. Michael Duignan on his appointment to succeed Bishop John Kirby as Bishop of Clonfert.  Father Michael brings varied gifts of Theology, teaching experience at Saint Angela’s in Sligo together with administrative skills as Chancellor and Diocesan Secretary.  Here in the West we look forward to working with him and availing of his considerable range of talents and experience which were in evidence in the preparation for the Holy Father’s visit to Knock Shrine last year.

I congratulate Father Michael on his appointment as Bishop of Clonfert, and also on the Silver Jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood.

We look forward to him bringing energy and fresh vision to his new ministry and we wish him well.

+Michael Neary
Archbishop of Tuam
