Joint Statement from the Department of Education and Skills and the Archbishop of Armagh regarding Scoil Náisúnta Bhrigdhe, Faughart, Co Louth

20 Jul 2018

The Department of Education and Skills and the Archbishop of Armagh, Eamon Martin, had a very constructive meeting on Friday last, 6 July in relation to Scoil Náisúnta Bhrigdhe, Faughart, exploring ways to address the wishes of all concerned.

There was a substantial exchange of information and views on the processes and practical issues involved and the Department clarified a number of matters on which the Patron had sought assurance.

Arising from these positive discussions, the Archdiocese, in association with the Parish, has agreed to make the vacant school property available to the Department for educational purposes subject to an appropriate agreement.

The practical details are being worked through by the Department with a view to achieving a September 2018 opening, in line with its commitment to diversity.

Archbishop Eamon Martin said that he is pleased that discussions with the Department are reaching a satisfactory conclusion.
