Information update for media from the Diocese of Clogher on the Funeral Mass for the late Big Tom McBride RIP

At 11.00am tomorrow, Friday 20 April 2018, the Funeral Mass for the late Big Tom McBride RIP, of Oram, Castleblayney, will be celebrated in Saint Patrick’s Church, Oram, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, in the Parish of Muckno, Diocese of Clogher.  Father Leo Creelman CC, Castleblayney, will be chief celebrant of the Mass which will be attended by family, neighbours, friends and by the local community.  Many people associated with the world of music will be in attendance, as will public figures.  Uachtarán na hÉireann, Michael D Higgins and An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD, will be represented by their respective Aides de Camp.  The Mass will be followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

As the Church has a limited capacity of two hundred seats, attendance inside the Church is strictly reserved for family, relatives and close friends only.  Out of respect for the solemnity of the Mass, and to provide privacy and space to the family, the use of camera equipment by media within the Church, or its grounds, is forbidden during and after the Funeral Mass.  A designated area has been reserved – and clearly identified – for use by camera journalists and other media at the front of the Church.  Photography will not be permitted outside this area.

Public Safety
In conjunction with An Garda Síochána, stewards will facilitate mourners and help to direct traffic.  Parking is very limited and priority will be given to members of the family, relatives and close friends.  The co-operation by everyone in attendance would be appreciated.

Shannonside – Northern Sound (local radio station) will broadcast the celebration of this Funeral Mass (with commentary).  For inquiries about audio feeds please contact Martin Howard on +353 (0) 43 334 9353.

For inquiries on this please contact RTÉ’s Tom Drury at 00 353 87 257 5602.  A public address system will be in place to relay the Mass to those attending outside of the Church.
