Pope Francis’ Evangelii Gaudium now available in all Veritas stores

“There is no doubt that the election of Pope Francis has been a major event this year for our customers” – Maura Hyland

Copies of Pope Francis’ new Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) are now available in all Veritas stores across Ireland.

Pope Francis has proven to be very popular with Veritas customers since his election in March. Maura Hyland, Director of Veritas said: “There is no doubt that the election of Pope Francis has been a major event this year for our customers. There has been unprecedented demand for titles about the new Pope. People are very interested in the ministry and background of the Holy Father, in what he is saying and doing and particularly how Pope Francis is influenced by his Jesuit background”.

Evangelii Gaudium, which was published on 24 November last, opens with the words “I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day.”  Evangelii Gaudium challenges every member of the Church to ask what it means to be a follower of Christ and calls everyone to preach the good news in today’s world.

Ms Hyland continued, “Despite most of what Pope Francis is saying being available on Twitter and other social media outlets, as well as being extensively reported by print and broadcast media outlets, customers in Veritas stores across the country continue to buy books about Pope Francis.  There has been a marked increase in interest in the papacy in 2013.”

Some of the most popular titles this year have been Pope Francis: What can we expect from a Jesuit Pope? and Lumen Fidei (The Light of Faith), the Encyclical which was published at the end of June.  Based on customer demand Veritas has just published a book containing a collection of Pope Francis’ words to date Pope Francis: Words of Mercy and Joy.  This book is already proving popular in the run up to Christmas.

Details on these and many other titles relating to Pope Francis in all Veritas stores published by leading authors from across the world including biographies of his life before he became Pope, can be found at www.veritas.ie.
