Bishop John Fleming to ordain Reverend Thomas Doherty to the priesthood

Bishop John Fleming, Bishop of Killala, will ordain Rev Thomas Doherty to the priesthood for service in the Diocese of Killala tomorrow, Sunday 24 November, at 4.00pm in Saint Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina, Co Mayo.

Tom is a native of Shanahee, Belmullett, Co Mayo.  He is the son of Carmel and the late Patrick Doherty. He has one brother, Darren, and one sister, Anita.  He was educated at Aughalsheen National School, the Convent Secondary School, Belmullet, and at the National University of Ireland Galway, where he received an honours Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Geography in 2007.

Tom entered the national seminary in 2007 and undertook his studies for the priesthood in Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth and also at the Pontifical Irish College in Rome. During his time in seminary Tom undertook various pastoral placements in the Diocese of Killala, including a pastoral year in the parish of Ballina.  Tom was ordained to the diaconate on 28 July 2013.

Tom will celebrate his first Mass on Monday 25 November at 7.30pm in the Church of Our Lady of Dolours, Shanahee and all are welcome to come and pray.
