Special Masses in Dublin for Pope Benedict and for the Election of the new Pope

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has asked that at the principal Mass in all public Churches in the Archdiocese of Dublin on Thursday 28th February the Mass for the Pope be said in thanksgiving for the Ministry of Pope Benedict XVI.     Archbishop Martin plans to celebrate a Special Mass in the Pro-Cathedral at 17.45 on that day.

Archbishop Martin noted that the prayer of the entire Church for the election of a new Pope is part of a long tradition of invoking the inspiration of the Holy Spirit on those called to be electors and on the one who will be called to guide the universal Church.  He asks that during the period of the sede vacante the Mass for the Election of a Pope should be celebrated on some weekdays, particularly on the days when the actual Conclave is being held.  A special intention should be inserted in the Prayers of the Faithful at all Masses during the entire period.

Special Masses will also be celebrated on the occasion of the election of the new Pope.
