DEATH OF ARCHBISHOP KEVIN BARDEN O.P.

The Dominican Order regrets to announce the death of Archbishop Kevin
William Barden O.P. who died on the 4th December 2004 at the Sacred
Heart Home, Sybil Hill Road, Raheny in Dublin.

Archbishop Barden was born in Dublin 3rd June 1908. He was educated in
the Christian Brother’s School Synge Street Dublin. He entered the
Dominican Order at St. Mary’s Tallaght in 1924 and was ordained to
the priesthood 28th February 1931. He taught theology in the Dominican
Studium Tallaght for thirty years.

Archbishop Barden established the Dominican presence in Iran in 1961.
He was ordained Archbishop of Isfahan of the Latins in Tehran on 25th
October 1974 and continued to minister there until he was expelled by
the Islamic Revolution in 1980.

Archbishop Barden returned to St Mary’s Tallaght and submitted his
resignation to the Holy See in 1982. For the last thirteen years
of his life he resided at the Sacred Heart Home Sybil Hill Road.
Archbishop Barden is survived by his sister who is a nun in Africa
and neices and nephews.

The funeral arrangments are as follows:
Removal from the Sacred Heart Home to St. Mary’s Dominican Priory
Tallaght on Monday 6th December, arriving at St. Mary’s Priory at
5.00pm.

Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Priory on Tuesday 7th December at 11.00 am.
followed by burial in the Priory cemetary.
