Statement by Bishop Murphy on the appointment of Father Raymond A Browne as Bishop of Kerry

02 May 2013

I wholeheartedly congratulate Father Raymond A Browne on his appointment today by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, as the new Bishop of the diocese of Kerry.

Father Ray comes to us from the diocese of Elphin, where he is parish priest of Ballagh, County Roscommon.  He brings to his new ministry a wide range of administrative skills and pastoral experience which he has acquired through the various ministries he has exercised up to now.

I believe his appointment will greatly benefit the Church in the diocese of Kerry and will also contribute significantly to the work of the Irish Episcopal Conference and its commissions and agencies.

This diocese has a rich Christian heritage and we look forward to continuing this journey with Father Ray Browne as our new bishop.  Father Ray can be assured of a very warm welcome from the priests, religious and laity of the diocese of Kerry.
