Statement from Bishop Smith in response to the Cloyne Report

20 Jul 2011

Bishop Smith and the priests of the Diocese of Meath strongly support the child safeguarding measures that are in place. For a number of years personnel in the Diocese of Meath have worked to ensure that proper procedures are in place to deal with any allegation of abuse by clergy. To this end, diocesan personnel have worked closely with the statutory authorities, namely the HSE and the Gardaí, both in sharing information and in reviewing procedures.

Furthermore, all the parish safeguarding representatives and priests have received training in operating the Children First Guidelines from the HSE and HSE accredited personnel. Any individual or group that supports all who have been abused in any way is to be welcomed.
