Special Holy Week and Easter feature on www.catholicbishops.ie

Our Lord’s Resurrection is celebrated this year on Easter Sunday, 4 April. You are invited to view a new ‘Holy Week and Easter 2010’ online resource which is now available on www.catholicbishops.ie.

The following are included in the feature:

  • details of the Holy Week and Easter services in the Vatican
  • information on diocesan events and ceremonies
  • reflections and homilies
  • details of religious programmes on television and radio during Holy Week and Easter
  • video reflection: Fr Paul Clayton-Lea from Clogherhead Parish in the Archdiocese of Armagh leads the Stations of the Cross

The web feature on Holy Week and Easter will be updated as additional information becomes available.

The services for Easter will be televised on RTÉ 1 from St Peter’s Cathedral in Belfast this year. Bishop Noel Treanor, Bishop of Down and Connor will preside at the following services:

  • Friday 2 April at 3:00pm – Solemn Liturgy for Good Friday. Music will be led by St Peter’s Cathedral Schola Cantorum
  • Saturday 3 April at 11:05pm – Easter Vigil Mass. Music will be led by St Peter’s Cathedral Senior Choir
  • Sunday 4 April at 10:00am – Mass for Easter Sunday. Music will be led by St Peter’s Cathedral boys choir, Schola Cantorum and internationally renowned singing trio, The Priests, who are all serving clergy in the Diocese of Down and Connor.

At 11:00am on Easter Sunday Pope Benedict XVI will deliver his Easter Message and greeting Urbi et Orbi to Catholics worldwide from St Peter’s Square in Rome. This will also be televised on RTÉ 1 television.
