Bishop Bill Murphy to open new Cura Outreach Service in Dingle, Co Kerry

Tomorrow (18 June 2008), Bishop Bill Murphy, Bishop of Kerry, will officially open a new Cura Outreach Service in Dingle, Kerry. In advance of the opening Bishop Murphy said, “ I welcome the opening of Cura’s new Outreach Service in Dingle. Cura was established in Kerry in 1978 and for 30 years it has provided support and care for women who were pregnant in difficult circumstances. I want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the work of Cura in Kerry, its staff and its many volunteers. I warmly congratulate Cura on this new initiative.”

Ms Caroline Spillane, Director of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency, said, “We are delighted to fund this expansion of Cura’s new Outreach Centre in Dingle in Kerry. I hope that the Saturday opening hours will facilitate women,who might be working or attending school or college during the week, to access these confidential and non-judgemental services. I would like to thank the volunteers in Kerry who have given their time to setting-up and staffing the service.”

Ms Ann Coffey, Coordinator of the Kerry Centre said, “by providing the Outreach Centre we are making our services more accessible to those who need it. Our purpose is to take the crisis out of a pregnancy.”

The centre is situated at Dingle Primary Care Centre, Green Street, Dingle. It is open every Saturday from 2.00 pm to 4.00pm. and the telephone number is: 0667127355 or Lo Call 1850 622 626.

Cura is an agency of the Irish Bishops’ Conference and was established in 1977. Cura provides a range of crisis pregnancy counselling services through its 16 centres and 2 Outreach Centres.

The work of Cura has been supported by the Crisis Pregnancy Agency since 2002. Throughout 2008, Cura will be receiving €600,000 to provide crisis pregnancy counselling services in 16 centres and 2 outreach services, including Dingle. In 2007 a total of 6500 clients contacted Cura.

Cura services include:

– Free pregnancy testing
– Crisis Pregnancy Counselling Support
– Information on social welfare and other rights and entitlements
– Linking client with other support services as required
– Making links with agencies providing accommodation as required
– Post Abortion counselling
– Crisis pregnancy counselling to baby’s father and other family members
– School Awareness Programme
– Post Abortion counselling and support for partner and other family members
