Bishop Leo O’Reilly welcomes establishment of Teaching Council

28 Mar 2006

PRESS RELEASE

28 MARCH 2006

BISHOP LEO O’REILLY WELCOMES

ESTABLISHMENT OF TEACHING COUNCIL

I welcome the formal establishment of the Teaching Council, as announced today
by the Minister for Education & Science, Mary Hanafin. Its establishment is an
acknowledgement of teachers – and teaching – as the most significant determining
factors in assuring a quality education system. The excellence of the Irish
education system is already acknowledged internationally. The Teaching Council
will serve to further enhance the quality of our education system.

I also welcome the intention of the Teaching Council to bring together teachers,
parents, management and unions so as to put students, and their learning, centre
stage in the education project.

I wish the Teaching Council every blessing and success in its work.
