CURA National Executive Council press statement in response to letter received from the Irish Bishops’ Conference

PRESS RELEASE

16 JUNE 2005

CURA NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT IN

RESPONSE TO LETTER RECEIVED FROM THE IRISH BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE

Issued by the Catholic Communications Office on behalf of the CURA

National Executive Council

In good faith and in response to respected moral theological advice, the
National Executive Council (NEC) of CURA believed its mandate and practice
in relation to offering the Positive Options leaflet and text number in
limited circumstances to be clearly in line with its Catholic ethos and
also serve the best interests of the clients we see on a daily basis who
are dealing with an unplanned crisis pregnancy.

In response to concerns raised by a small number of CURA volunteers in
relation to the perceived conflict between the practice of offering the
Positive Options leaflet in limited circumstances and the ethos of CURA,
CURA asked the Bishops’ Conference for guidance.

The National Executive Council of CURA has received the Bishops’ response
to this request and accepts the recommendations and considerations
contained therein.
