Four Church Leaders Call for an end to Street Violence

Meeting in Armagh today, the leaders of Ireland’s four main churches called for an immediate end to the street violence which has disrupted communities in Belfast in recent weeks.

The retired Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin, Dr James Kavanagh, died this morning.He was 88 years of age.

Archbishop Sean Brady given honorary degree by University of Ulster

The Most Reverend Sean Brady, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland has been given the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the University of Ulster in recognition of his promotion of peace and reconciliation in Ireland.

Catholic Church Commission on Child Sexual Abuse announced

At a Press Conference in Dublin today, it was announced that Judge Gillian Hussey would Chair a new and fully independent Catholic Church Commission on Child Sexual Abuse. The new Commission is being established jointly by the Irish Bishops’ Conference, the Conference of Religious of Ireland (CORI) and the Irish Missionary Union (IMU).

Ordinations of 12 Maynooth Students in 2002

A total of 12 students from St Patrick’s College, Maynooth are being ordained to the priesthood in 2002.
