Bishop Philip Boyce’s statement on the announcement of the dissolution of the National Conference of Priests of Ireland

PRESS RELEASE

19th September 2007

Statement by Bishop Boyce re NCPI

I am saddened to hear that at the AGM of the National Conference of Priests of Ireland (NCPI), it has been decided to wind up the organisation.

The NCPI was a forum to support the priests of Ireland, and to discuss and represent their views. Since it was founded over thirty years ago, it has promoted and organised many useful initiatives for priests: diocesan, religious and missionary, including residential renewal programmes, annual conferences etc.

As the Episcopal Conference representative to the NCPI for the last number of years, I have attended many of the meetings of its National Executive Committee as well as the Annual Conference and AGM of the NCPI.

Support for priests in their ministry in these difficult and challenging times is very important. I would encourage all clergy and laity to continue to support each other, and to support our priests in general.

+ Philip Boyce, O.C.D.
Bishop of Raphoe.
