Easter 2003 - Diocesan Events

DIOCESE OF KILDARE AND LEIGHLIN


 
The Holy Week/Easter Ceremonies on RTE Television this year are coming from
Carlow Cathedral. Bishop Jim Moriarty will be the chief celebrant on the Vigil 
and on Easter Sunday morning - his first Easter as bishop of Kildare and Leighlin. 
There will be plenty of beautiful music, from a 93-member choir and a 17-piece 
orchestra,  and some innovative liturgical movement and mime, as well as the 
powerful symbolism of the Easter Triduum.

Holy Thursday – 17th April 
Fr Liam Lawton will be chief concelebrant of the Mass of the Lord's Supper
which will feature his newly-composed 'Lough Derg Mass'. The Mass will be
broadcast on Network 2 at 7.00pm. 

Good Friday – 18th April 
The Celebration of the Lord's Passion will be led by Fr Ger Ahern, the
Administrator of Carlow Cathedral. This will be broadcast on RTE 1 at
3.00pm. 

Holy Saturday - 19th April
Most Rev Jim Moriarty, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin will be Chief
Celebrant of the Easter Vigil which will be broadcast on RTE1 at 10.30pm. 

Easter Sunday – 20th April 
Bishop Jim Moriarty will be the Chief Celebrant of Mass for Easter Sunday
which will be broadcast on RTE1 at 10.00am. This Mass is also being 
transmitted on nine TV channels in Europe and throughout Canada on CBC. It
will also be streamed on the internet on the RTE website www.rte.ie/eastermass

Ceremonies elsewhere in the Diocese
In St Conleth's Parish, Newbridge there will be a Children's Way of the Cross
at 8.00pm on Good Friday in Cill Mhuire Church, Ballymany. 

There will also be an Inter Church Way of the Cross starting at St. Conleth’s 
Church followed by Prayer at St. Patrick’s and concluding at Cill Mhuire, 
with a hymn and blessing.
