Events and Ceremonies for 2003



Sunday 19th January 2003
Evensong for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be held in St.
Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin at 3.15pm. The preacher will be the Most Rev
Anthony Farquhar, Auxiliary Bishop of Down and Connor. 

Most Rev Seamus Hegarty, Bishop of Derry will host an Ecumenical Service in St.
Eugene's Cathedral, Derry on at 7.00pm. Guest preacher will be Dr Ken Good,
Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry and Raphoe. Local church leaders and public
representatives will be in attendance. 

An Ecumenical Service will be held in Waterford City in St Patrick's United
Methodist-Presbyterian Church at 7.30pm. Fr Michael Mullins LSS will be the
Preacher. 

A Church Unity Prayer Service will be held in the Pastoral Centre, Ballina, 
Co Mayo at 7.30pm. The Speaker will be Bishop Richard Henderson.

Monday 20th January 2003
The 36th Annual Greenhills Ecumencial Conference takes place at Greenhills Presentation 
Convent, Drogheda, Co Louth. The topic this year is: "New Perspectives in Irish 
Ecumenism." Speakers include: Dr Gordon Graham, an American Episcopalian working in 
the North of Ireland, Fr Irineu Craciun of the Greek Orthodox Church, members of the 
Benedictine Community in Rostrevor, Co Down and Rev Dr Kenneth Kearon, Director of the 
Irish School of Ecumenics. The conference begins with Coffee and registration at 10.15am, 
includes lunch at 1pm and concludes with prayer and worship at 3.30pm. The cost is €20

Fr Desmond O'Donnell will be visiting St Conleth's Parish, Newbridge, Co Kildare
during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity to speak on the topic: "The Decline in Religious 
Adherence - Crisis and Opportunity". This event will take place in St Patrick's Church,
Newbridge at 8.00pm. 

Tuesday 21st January 2003
Bishop John McAreavey and Bishop Harold Miller will carry out a joint pastoral visit
to Craigavon Regional Hospital, Craigavon, Co Armagh from 11.00am to 2.00pm.

The Rt Rev James Mehaffey, former Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry and Raphoe will
preach at an Ecumenical Service in St Peter's Cathedral, Belfast at 8.00pm.

Wednesday 22nd January 2003
An Ecumenical Coffee Morning will be hosted by Most Rev Sean Brady, Archbishop of
Armagh for the clergy of Armagh city at 10.00am in Ara Coeli, Armagh.

An Ecumenical Service will be held in Christ Church, Church Road, Tramore, Co Waterford
at 7.30pm. Rev Derek Sargent will be conducting the service and Monsignor Michael Olden
will be the Preacher.

An Interdenominational Service for Church Unitywill be held in St Patrick's Church
of Ireland Cathedral in Armagh at 8.00pm. The former Church of Ireland Bishop of
Derry and Raphoe, The Rt Rev James Mehaffey will preach at the service.

Thursday 23rd January 2003
An Annual Common Act of Worship will be held in [Church of Ireland] Holy Trinity Church,
Seapatrick Parish, Banbridge, Co Downat 8.00pm. The service is organised by the South
Down Ecumenical Clerical Study Group. Most Rev Donal McKeown, Auxiliary Bishop of Down
and Connor will preach at the service.  

An Ecumenical Servicewill be held in Christ Church, Rushbrook, Cobh, Co Cork
at 8.00pm.

An Inter-Church Prayer Meeting will be held in Cill Mhuire Church, Newbridge,
Co Kildare at 8.00pm. 

Friday 24th January 2003
An Ecumenical Service will be held in St. Oliver's Church, Clonmel at 7.30pm.
Reverend George Knowd will be the Preacher.

An Interdenominational Service will be held in St. John's Church of Ireland
Cathedral, Sligo at 8.00pm.

Sunday 26th January 2003
A Church Unity Prayer Service will be held in the Pastoral Centre, Ballina,
Co Mayo at 7.30pm. The Speaker will be Mr John Maan.
