Catechetical Sunday offers us an opportunity to celebrate our faith, a faith that is alive in our homes, our schools and our parishes. It is for this reason that the theme of Catechetical Sunday 2004 is Faith Alive. It is a time to recognise and support the wonderful work of parents, teachers, the clergy, parish workers and all members of our faith community. Although this is the first year that such an event is being held, it is hoped to make this an annual event and that all the different partners in education will become involved in turning it into a significant celebration. For this year, we hope that the liturgical packs and posters that are currently being sent out to Parishes and schools will encourage a liturgical celebration on Sunday 8th February which highlights our education in faith. How can you become involved? One of the suggestions for Faith Alive – Catechetical Sunday 2004 is the putting together of a display for the back of your local church building. Details of the display can be found on this website. Perhaps you could become involved in helping to prepare such a display? If you are involved in the music or other aspects of the liturgy in your parish we would also draw your attention to the liturgical pack and encourage you to implement some of our suggestions. National Catechetical Office Catechetical Sunday is organised under the auspices of the Episcopal Commission for Catechetics, chaired by Bishop Martin Drennan and implemented through the National Catechetical Office.
