Ulster Unionist Party deputy leader Danny Kennedy offers condolences to family of Cardinal Daly Print
4 January 2010

Speaking ahead of the funeral of Cardinal Cahal Daly, former leader of the Catholic church in Ireland, Ulster Unionist Party deputy leader Danny Kennedy has expressed his regret at the death of a man whose work was "widely respected".

"I note with deep regret the passing of Cardinal Daly. He served as Primate during one of the most difficult periods in our recent history and, while we would have disagreed politically, his consistent opposition to violence as a means of achieving political aims was widely respected by those of all faiths and none.

"Our thoughts are with the Cardinal's family at this difficult time."
