Ordination to the Priesthood of Rev. Conor McCarthy by Most Rev. Anthony Farquhar, Auxiliary Bishop of Down and Connor

On Sunday 28 June 2015, Rev. Conor McCarthy will be ordained to the Priesthood for the Diocese of Down and Connor at a ceremony to be held in St Anne’s Church, Derriaghy, Belfast, by Most Rev. Anthony Farquhar.

Notes to Editors

  • Conor McCarthy (27) was born to Mrs Eithne McCarthy (deceased) and Mr Martin McCarthy on 21 November 1987 and baptised in St Anne’s Church in Finaghy. He received his early education in St Anne’s Primary School and Rathmore Grammar School. He has two brothers (Seán and Peter) and two sisters (Teresa and Rachel).
  • On leaving school, Conor studied for a Bachelor’s Degree in Music (Bmus), which he completed in 2009, during which time he was a peripatetic music teacher for the South Eastern and Belfast Education and Library Boards.
  • Conor was accepted to study for the priesthood in 2009 and entered St Malachy’s Seminary, Belfast, in September of the year, where he began his degree in philosophy (BA) through the Maryvale Institute, Birmingham.
  • In 2011, Conor commenced the next part of his formation programme in the Pontifical Irish College in Rome, studying theology in the Angelicum University at bachelor’s level (STB) and presently at postgraduate level, specialising in Moral Theology. Conor was ordained as a deacon on April 22nd 2014 as the final stage in preparation for priesthood.
  • Conor has spent his summers during this time working in the parishes of St Paul’s (West Belfast), Newcastle and Bangor.
  • Photography within the church during the ceremony is limited to the family photographer. After the ordination there will be photo and interview opportunities outside the church with the newly ordained and Bishop Farquhar greeting the people.
